The boiler faults we repair
We always start by finding the cause. Then you know the price of the repair, before we do it.

No heating
Cold radiators while the boiler seems to be running: the pump, the diverter valve, the thermostat or the circuit board may be to blame.

No hot water
The heating works but the water stays cold at the tap: often the domestic hot water exchanger, the diverter valve or a flow sensor.

Pressure dropping
Needle below 1 bar, frequent top-ups: there's probably a leak on the circuit or an expansion vessel that needs re-pressurising.

Boiler locked out or error code
Red light or a code on the display: note it down with your boiler's brand, it helps us prepare the visit.

Unusual noises
Banging, whistling or gurgling: air in the circuit, limescale in the heat exchanger or a tired pump.

Leak under the boiler
Dripping or a puddle: a faulty safety valve, fitting or seal. Turn off the water supply if the leak is significant.

Ignition failing
The flame or pilot light goes out after a few seconds: the electrode, gas supply, fan or flue need checking.

Poor combustion
A yellow flame, soot marks or a burning smell: switch the boiler off and have the combustion checked straight away.

Smell gas? Do these things, in this order
Open doors and windows. No flames or sparks: do not touch any switch, do not turn on a light, do not use any electrical appliance or phone inside the home.
If you can reach the gas meter valve without turning on a light, close it. Then leave the home and call from outside.

The pressure. On the gauge, the needle is usually between 1 and 2 bar when cold. Below that, simply topping up may be enough: follow your boiler's manual.
The thermostat. Flat batteries, the wrong programme or a set temperature that's too low: it's a more common cause of “breakdown” than you'd think.
The power supply. Check that the boiler's breaker hasn't tripped. If it's locked out, you can try resetting it; if the fault comes back, don't keep trying and call us.
