Why switch to a heat pump?

  1. 01

    Less energy used

A heat pump draws most of its energy from the outside air: it generally gives out 3 to 4 times more heat than the electricity it uses.

  2. 02

    The end of oil

The Brussels-Capital Region now bans the installation of new oil boilers: a heat pump is one of the alternatives.

  3. 03

Warm in winter, cool in summer

Some models are reversible and can also cool your home during hot spells.

RENOLUTION grants are currently suspended. As the rules change regularly, check the latest information on environnement.brussels; we help you make sense of it during the survey.

Air-to-water, air-to-air or hybrid: which heat pump?

Not all heat pumps meet the same need. The right choice depends on your home, your heat emitters and your budget.

  • Air-to-water heat pump

    Replaces the boiler

It heats the water in your central heating (radiators or underfloor heating) and, depending on the model, your hot water.

    • Connects to the existing circuit
    • Ideal with underfloor heating or low-temperature radiators
    • Can produce your hot water
  • Air-to-air heat pump

Reversible air conditioning that blows warm or cool air through indoor units. As a complement, or for a home without central heating.

  • Hybrid heat pump

A heat pump paired with a gas boiler that takes over in very cold weather. A gentle transition for poorly insulated houses.

    • Keeps a boiler as back-up
    • More forgiving with existing radiators
    • Switches automatically to the most suitable source

What we check before installing

  • Your home's heat requirements (insulation, floor area, orientation)
  • Whether your radiators can work with low-temperature water
  • Where the outdoor unit goes: noise, distance, neighbours
  • Any permits needed (co-owners, planning depending on the location)
  • The electrical power available and the connection to the fuse box
  • Hot water production (built-in or separate cylinder)
  • The condition of the heating circuit (power flushing if needed)

Depending on where the outdoor unit goes (street-facing wall, co-owned building), permission may be needed: we help you check before the work.
