Why have your flues swept?
Every fire and every bit of oil burned leaves soot in the flue. Without sweeping, it builds up until it becomes dangerous.

Avoid a chimney fire
Soot and tar deposits are flammable: they can catch fire and damage the flue, or even the roof.

Proper smoke extraction
A clogged or blocked flue (a nest, debris) draws smoke badly, with a risk of carbon monoxide coming back into the room.

If there's a claim, your insurer may ask for proof of a recent sweep. Keep the document we give you after the visit.

Gas boiler with a balanced flue?
Gas condensing boilers expel their fumes through a balanced flue or a dedicated flue. Their flue is checked during the boiler service, which is compulsory in the Brussels-Capital Region: as a rule, no separate sweep is needed.

A brush passed through the whole flue to loosen soot and deposits, then the residue removed.

The obligations depend on your appliance and your fuel, and your insurer or your lease may also require it. In any case, sweeping at least once a year is strongly recommended for any flue used regularly.
Sweeping a chimney costs €149 VAT incl.. The sweeping certificate is included and you get the price before the work.
At least once a year for a chimney, a stove or an oil boiler flue used regularly, ideally before winter. Heavy use may justify a second visit.
For a gas boiler with a balanced flue, the flue is checked during the boiler service. For an old masonry flue, ask us for advice.
Usually less than an hour for a standard flue, longer if the flue is very clogged or hard to reach.
If you can, close the appliance's air inlet, never throw water on the fire, get everyone out of the home and call 112.
Don't light a fire in the hours before so the flue is cold, and clear access to the appliance.
